Well it has arrived! One box one day and several days later the other. It is a fantastic kit I must say and the detail on the hull is excellent. The one good thing is that all the slots etc are ready cut out and to a good standard. Few flood holes round the front dive planes missed but they are just straight forward drill a hole of suitable size. The conning tower and deck gun and 20 mm are basically all done. the railings etc all pre soldered. This will cut build time down and may not impress some of you guys. I don't mind as I like to concentrate on the nice bits.

I have done quite a bit of work. The tech rack is 50% done. When about I have worked long hours on it. Having lost my wife just over a year ago I don't have anyone to remind me to come to bed. I also have a young Beagle so my build time needs to be concentrated on the things I like doing. So far it does everything which is says on the tin. German engineering.

I will do some pictures and post.

I would like some advice I probably did know where can I get the following?

Spray paint light grey and dark grey in a rattle can.

Need Kreig Marine flag and decals Olympic rings.

Kit not cheap..told my sons its their inheritance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For paint Halfords or car paint factors. Halfords are better if you want aerosols as they do a comprehensive range.

thanks for info, I really wanted mat light and dark grey I could only find gloss.

You just coat it with a clear coat either matt or satin. Satin is better, matt can look a little too dull.

Gloss is a great base for your decals and for some weathering techniques. Then a coat of clear.

Worth thinking about a small spray gun and compressor. The up front cost will be a little more than aerosols, but you'll probably break even by your second model.

I find it easier to get a good uniform finish with a spray gun and compressor than using rattle cans.

I have had spray guns and always seem to get in a mess with them probably because I don't clean them. I have mostly used rattle cans built a 1/12 lifeboat and the finish I got was superb I do several coats and then clear laquer. I cant seem to get on with spray gun or air brush get some sags and runs.

Sounds like you're trying to put on too much paint at once. Just takes a bit of practice.

With an airbrush you should always have far more control than with rattle cans, strange your getting more runs. I've always found the paint to go on fine, the challenge is the lacquer!

Airbrushes are fine for detail work, but for bigger models like this one you really want a small spray gun.
