Parcel delivery Companies .................UGH
« on: February 06, 2016, 09:44:12 am »

Did anybody see the TV report on the mis-handling of our parcels through these companies.

I sent a boat via this system only recently and it's been reported that it arrived broken, with evidence of being thrown around. According to the film, they can be seen tossing the packages from one section to the next in the distribution centre with not a care in the world.    Disgusting........

I have re-read the rules on claims on the 'Parcel to go' web site and it seems that claims are undertaken at your own risk as everything is covered in their favour. There is No way for redress and it's at your own risk.

Just be careful out there.

From experience I can say that I have never had an issue with Hermes.  Not the fastest, but good value for money on larger items.
For faster deliveries or outside the UK I use UPS again with no problems.

Having stood in a parcel delivery warehouse I have watched them throw small parcels around into bins. The post office I understand does the same thing. The larger parcels they just dropped - no bending of the employees back - onto the floor when they had carried them to the delivery round pile.

Parcel force, Hermes and DHL are the worst I have dealt with

Hermes I lost the plot with before Christmas a total joke!
I wouldn't buy something if it was delivered by Hermes now

After decades of using Post Office Parcels for hundreds of parcels without any fault, I recently sent my first parcel by courier using ' Parcels2Go'.  AFTER having done so I read reviews of their service which was scathing in content and I became worried about having used the worst courier possible?

However, the parcel was collected dead on time and delivered as requested 48 hours later in perfect condition. Maybe we should ensure our packaging is properly 'carrier-proof' using all means possible.

After all, you might just get this driver vandal! ...............   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd1oJjl_XFI

Carriers only care about delivery schedule as they publish the numbers.

Never again will I have a boat delivered by courier.Wullie sent me a Vliestroom in a crate he built (a solid crate now full of LP's). The carrier must have bounced it all over the place because I received a 3D jigsaw puzzle. Kenny has sent me a well packaged Talacre that must have gone via Mombasa. Treated so roughly that the motor and mount came off and then bounced around free to damage what it liked. So two deliveries of carefully packaged boats were complete disasters for me.  <:(

Boats aside I have recieved other deliveries where the parcel was battered to hell  but contents ok due to not being delicate.

We just had such a case with GLS in Denmark, I would say that the video says it all.

Must say in defence of these companies, have had a fair amount from Howes and they use Fed Ex.The chap is friendly, polite, doesn't hurl it over the fence and drives the van on four wheels...That's the luck of the draw I suppose.Agree about Hermes though...stroll on!....

It was said by one of the handlers in the film that if it isn't marked fragile they are allowed to throw it.

we use parcel hero for the US, though as yet any parcel sent is not of damageable equipment, nylon filters recently, and metal spigots previously, they use UPS or DHL (now worried), no complaints yet, time will tell. comparatively cheaper than post office.

I had a model delivered bu one company.
It wasn't boxed and delivered with batteries and radio.
No damage whatsoever.
Pity I didn't sign for it as I could have got their name.

This is all so much down to the guys/girls that handle your parcel. I would expect that all the companies had very similar training and expectations but then it is about how it is done in practice which we all know can be a very different thing.

I doubt that there is a best company - it is a lottery of who handled you parcel.

I always take the extra insurance....

... I see it as making a bet with the delivery company that they will actually do what I paid them to do in the first place!

The local van driver maybe is a guy/gal who takes reasonable care
of the parcels.
What happens between the senders pickup and the hub your caring person
collects from is anyone's guess.

That would be nice  :D
Each parcel in its own stowage. :-))

I once had three parcels from UPS
on the same van .
The guy found two and then started throwing
parcels to the front of the van to unearth the third >>:-(

Both my parcels were clearly marked as fragile. I suppose it helps them to decide which parcels to throw  >>:-(

One courier to avoid like the absolute plague is Yodel , friends of mine have had deliveries "left in a safe place"... yup in their refuse BIN , they delivered a 30kg bag of seed for my bird feeders 2 Decembers ago and left it outside hidden behind a bin in the pouring rain , took me 4 hours to eventually find it ( a neighbour had to move the bin as it was too heavy for me to move ) and lets just say the whole bag ruined , the supplier immediately had a replacement bag sent by another courier 2 days later though.

I cannot understand why Yodel has been allowed to continue as a business it is the worst I have ever used and I have refused to buy from online stores even when they have been the cheapest simply due to the fact they used Yodel

As always - it depends on the operatives. In this area Yodel is one of the better ones for performance in the actual delivery to the door. Hermes depends on whether its Father or Son who does the delivery. Best of all is Parcel Force - simply because their local man couldn't be more helpful. We are lucky in that most of the delivery men are the same every delivery and we get to know them - except Amazons own service.

I was watching a similar topic on a telescope forum, the working guidelines state that a parcel should be packed to withstand a certain drop. so not good.
recently we found a parcel that was supposedly delivered, when we finally went out in the back garden, it was 10 foot away from the 6 foot high wall at the back, and had presumably been there for 3 days, through all the rain that was the reason we had not been in the back garden.

Not here - they mainly used DPD until they set up their own service using, I suspect self employed, 'man and van' operators.
