I saw the comment you posted previously on Facebook, it was posted by someone I know who posts lots of rubbish.. Such as if you don't like this in 10seconds you will drop dead or share amongst your friends to be a millionaire. I will leave it to you to work out if it's true or not...

Dunno how you saw me post it on facebook as my page is set to friends only.

However you don't have to take my word for it, How about the BBC/Skynews/Moneysavingexpert???

I do not like the inference of scaremongering. But there again I'm not burying my head in the sand and waiting for MY HUGE bill to arrive either.

That's the exact reason why I am not on facebook.

I dont think he saw your facebook Brian

The way I see it is that a friend of Gingyer on facebook posted a similar comment to yours. He didnt see your actual post

The issue they are talking about affects much older phones. (I believe iPhone 3 and earlier) and is how the phone interprets the emoji. Some older phones consider it to be a picture and therefore send the messsage as am MMS as opposed to SMS.  Newer phones do not do this.
My dad's old nokia phone does this

It's Ok Brian, I didn't see your Facebook, the comment you posted on here was posted on a friends page

To say your scarmongering is a bit harsh,
Passing on slightly misleading information with good intentions is more like it...

The BBC article you quoted is from 5 February 2015.... Over a year ago
And it makes a simple statement regarding the handsets.....

It seems to affect older models of phones, including some Samsung and Apple handsets.

All the "alerts" say it is only related to iPhones (granted your note didn't) no mention of what version  or the other brands. So you can understand why had been an owner of an iPhone 4,5S and now a 6S also an iPad with Mobile data that I text with also and have never been charged for sending an emoji you can understand why I say it's rubbish  :-))

Don't have a "smart" phone.
However do recall the powers to be over here, warning Facebook, smart phone, users that their own actual location and other data can easily be picked up from smart phone photos posted to Facebook.
Has something to do with GPS which automatically "marks" each photo with time, date location etc.
So you post a pic of your car, dog, or family, etc, etc, outside your home, bingo "they" now have your address etc etc.

Easy enough to switch off location services.
Like most other applications there is an OFF
switch.
