New to boats, and by accident really...
« on: February 22, 2016, 01:06:26 pm »

Hi All,

Thought i should say a howdy before i figure out where to post about my build... I am 42 and live in Kent, work as an Electrician and dabble in all things Tech & Electronics like Arduous etc..

So i like most blokes have made several models before, but in that respect we are talking "Airfix" and the like,i have done a couple of matchstick model kits too, but i guess most of these kind of models are more like "toys" than a proper model.

Anyway i was unlucky enough to be injured recently and been sat at home off work. I asked friends and family for things to do and cutting a long story short my sister-in-law brought around a boat model that her late father bought but never started, and could i build it. That boat is an old Graupner Fischkutter HF-408 Elke and i shall post elsewhere about that.

So here i be sat with a box full of balsa, plywood, dowels, brass bits and lots more and some instructions and plans mostly in German.! Nothing like the deep end eh, Luckily her late father had got quite prepared and the box includes paints, glues, saws, sandpaper, knifes and other needed bits so effectively i am good to go.. I have the added pressure of the sentimental value of putting his boat together for them.

So thanks for letting me join the group, i will have a look around and figure out where to post a topic on building this Graupner!

The Elke is quite a straightforward kit.
I have one on the shelf to build at some point.

Hello there Prof. and welcome aboard. The Elke is, in my humble opinion, the most sea-worthy model fishing boat there is. I've been so pleased with mine that I've built 2 of them - looking forward to catching your build thread - enjoy. :-))

Regards,

Ray.

Whats difference in the two forums sections "working vessels...." and "working vessels..... R&D" ?
Trying to work out which one to put my build topic in? Both those areas seem to have builds in..?
Thanks

It was something we tried many moons ago, it was an effort to separate out the Build Blogs from subject specific questions...  :embarrassed:
