Continuing on with the topic of Gunboats away from the Ground mines topic, I was looking at Rendel Gunboats and saw that one was converted into a test bed for a 9.2inch turret destined for the Lord Nelson class Semi Dreadnoughts called HMS Drduge. It would make an interesting model incorporating a neat turret with a none too complex hull.

As HMS Exellent she seemed to have another gun, possibly a ten inch.

Secondly. While looking at this, a linked image showed an open topped barbette with two 12 inch guns on dissappearing mounts. It turns out that these were on one of the Popovkas built by Russia! At last, superlative detail with which to complete my Novgorod:O)

I think this may be the vessel in question, but without the turret.

There were loads of similar vessels around, most built in British yards, in the 1880's and 90's.
This is one I built some years ago when I found out that it wasn't the wreck it appeared to be from the photo in Janes

The only real problem was the under-deck clearance for the boiler.

They are such interesting vessels as are monitors and Coastal defence vessels. I think HMS Gorgon is gorgeous!

Hi I put this photo up on Shipnostolga site for ID and I believe some ID it as the Drudge undertaking trials up north ( possibly Humber ) with the then new type of 9.2" gun

It looks like the Mk X as was fitted to the M15 type monitors and some later Armoured Cruisers. The sheer number of sailors on the working platform is interesting. Perhas they are being trained on the weapon? I know older weapons were manpower intensive, but that seems to be too many crewmen to be practical.

I envisage a model with a variety of turrets so you could represent her in one of her many guises.
