Even on the railway side there is an awful lot of 'preserved' stuff, especially locos, that is just rusting in a corner. Various groups bought them at scrap value to save them but actually restoring them and keeping them running is phenomenally expensive. Even 'cosmetic' restoration (ie. no attempt to get it working) requires space to display.

On a lighter note, did not a certain royal prince run Bronington aground when he was Officer commanding.

Yes indeed , the Navigator was put on a 'fizzer' for ' not notifying the captain of the approaching mudbank'
AND the same royal ran a HS 146 of the Queens flight off a runway in the Scottish Islands , the 'other pilot' was reprimanded for not advising the pilot of the excessive speed . . .  %%

In this increasingly digital age I think they could at least preserve a full digital walkaround of our truly historic vessels, trains, planes etc.

Thats a good idea Dave but way to sensible for any government body.
Beside by the time they have commissioned a "special" camera changed the
spec half a dozen times they would cost more then the original historical item  %%

So absolutely no difference then to a normal job, where the subordinate usually gets the blame for the bosses short comings..

I saw something recently on tv in a ship. The (backpack?) camera recorded multiple views as it went along and mapped the compartments in relation to position in the ship. I wish I could remember what the program was but those brain cells are already dead (my brain has a high mortality rate these days  %% ).
