Brian Kings models are for sale at auction
« on: March 08, 2016, 06:14:23 pm »

I see in Model Boats Magazine that Brian Kings fleet is for sale by auction in a couple of weeks.
I met Brian many years ago at Beale Park and we got on really well. I haven't seen him for ages and seeing the auction advertised I wondered if he was OK????

Brian is fine but at the age of 90 is not as mobile as he used to be so he has moved into a retirement home and no longer has space to store his model collection

The results of the auction of Brian's models can be seen on the MB forum: http://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=115007&p=1 or you can look on the Ewbank site although I don't know how long the details will be displayed there.

Good prices on some of the models and the buyers certainly knew which ones to go for. I hope Brian is pleased.

I drove up from Bognor and just missed the sale though I saw some of the models being loaded into vehicles. I could not gauge wether Mr King was pleased or not, I think his first mission was to get home. Members of his model boat club attended as well so he was not alone at the auctioneers.

Having seen the models in daylight at first hand, the comments made about his workmanship are true. His craftsmanship is remarkable and inspiring.  I just hope that the models will be looked after, and that future inheritors will appreciate what they have been left.

Brian's boats went for just over £26,000 a little over estimate but not a lot when you think of the work involved,Brian is going into a care home not far from Silvermere lake so he be able to pop there to see the the boys, some of his tools are up for sale and are on the Phoenix marine model club site if interested.........Ray.
