Lipo battery fail......safe to reuse?

I just took my Perkasa for a sail. I am aware  of  the low voltage cut off and the esc is set and I have a bleeper fitted to sound before reaching the esc cut off. (However my deafness makes the bleeper hard to detect).
The boat just stopped and I had to recover it to find the battery was extremely low and a little puffy.
I am unsure if I missed the bleeper sounding but even so the esc should then have kicked in and when this happens a short wait usually let's you restart and gently sail back but not this time.
I have come home and put the battery on a balance charge and it seems to be taking the charge and the puffiness has gone away.
As I write this the 5 cell Lipo is approaching 3.9 volts per cell.
My concern is how safe is it to use this battery again? I don't mind taking a chance on it giving up but obviously the worst scenario is it catching fire while sailing the boat.
Can anyone comment on this?

If it's started puffing I really wouldn't risk it.


A battery is a battery and a boat is a boat, I know which I'd rather be chucking in the bin! (Ps you should take LiPos to be safely disposed of, don't bin them!)

bucket of salt water, chuck them in and leave to go totally flat.
