bilge pump
« on: April 08, 2017, 03:07:20 pm »

While making my model I was asked if it would have a bilge pump in case of accidents. I thought this would be a great idea, so off I went hunting for a stl file on the internet - I found this one http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4839
after printing this using thick walls I found the impellor too big, no problem, another printed slightly smaller.
this was then assembled using a tiny drone motor. upon testing it proved to work well, and when approximately measured produced a flow rate of about 1.5 litres a minute.

That's not a bilge pump, more of a fire hydrant!

That looks quite powerful ... would it work as a small bow thruster?

I guess it would, but its not really designed with that in mind, it doesnt perform well in reverse

They are small enough that you could do two. one for each side maybe.

I am going to try and print a couple and experiment a bit.

just remember you may have to reprint the impellers a fraction smaller, on mine they were about 1mm too big, but then I thickened the walls.
I am currently designing a working anchor winch using a set of gear components I bought several years back, and a cd drawer operating motor, from an old pc CD drive
