Which Polyphemus? 1776 or 1878?
This thread may help if it is the 1878 ship http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,36872.0.html

Assuming the 1881 torpedo ram, there are seven ships boats including two large 'float off life rafts'.
The others, of varying sizes, are davit mounted with tarpaulin covers.  Not sure what you mean by "air cased"?

I would guess that 'air cases' might mean buoyancy compartments built into the structure of the boat, probably the bow and stern.

Your model still looks gorgeous Bob! Do you get to sail it much? I know you were working on the Midnight garden inspired rowing boat a while back.

Thank you.  Circumstances lately have prevented much model making, but the ballast plumbing on Polyphemus has been completely rebuilt and she is totally watertight.  Just a few stability issues, being taken a step at a time.  She will be limited to calm conditions due to lack of freeboard.

That is a great looking ship Bob. I only found out about the ship while I was searching Victorian Ironclads and that is the one that came up the most, and your build was listed on Google. First page no less.

This is a 24ft air cased whaler of the same period (1890's).

If you want a better/larger copy I can e-mail to you if you PM your address.
