Model Boat Forum
« on: March 28, 2016, 04:22:13 pm »

you look at buy and sell thread most say  this is for regular forum post and not sales site,    if not a sales site then why have buy and sell thread,  thats the whole point,   what if you were some like me few years ago new to the hobby and looking for boats etc,     i am looking for a certain boat so always looking on here and diffrent places,  and is quite annoying seeing post remove and put not a sales site,   i no people on here will defend them, some might not,

The rules on the forum are quite simple Smudger
Established posters can present sales after 25
Posts.
Chancers
who just stick a sale on get jumped on.

The Forum is for people to exchange ideas and generally chat about model boating subjects (although not always).

The sales board is simply a grace and favour facility for people who have contributed to the forum as so many people just read them without putting something in of their own which is what keeps the forum interesting and such a useful resource.

If you open it up as a free to all sales site then it will simply clog up with people wanting to avoid the E Bay fees etc.

Ebay don't do Forums, Model Boating Forums are not retail sites - simples!

Hi smudger,
as far as I know you can buy a model from someone's post, even as a newcomer. You can't sell until you have made a contribution to the site. That seems fare doesn't it?
PS. You might want to check your predictive text settings, your post is a bit garbled.

If you are talking about the Model Boats magazine website then there isn't a specific number of posts but I do normally expect sellers to have made a significant positive contribution to the discussions.

Anyone who simply puts up a for sale item as first post will have it deleted as the topic heading makes quite clear.

Rules is rules and there has to be a 'line in the sand'.

If a member is that determined to sell stuff on this forum, then putting 'That's nice' twenty five times to random posts will get you to the minimum  number of posts to become a full member. But this would be boring and not very constructive for the aspiring vendor.

In twenty five posts, a serious aspiring member can have spent several hours seeing some excellent work and much dedication to this hobby.  The Moderators can also judge in twenty five posts if an aspiring member needs expelling.

By definition, Moderators have to be the judge and jury and usually do so within the rules set out in the relevant section. If we didn't have them, then the forum and many like them would go to rat poop with flame wars and anyold dodgy behavior going on.

And of course not forgetting the other main sales rules to the 25 post rule
Must Have a price.
Must have at least 1 picture of the actual object.
Must not be for sale on any other site.

1 item per advert as well.
Felt like a spammer posting all those model kits the other day  :embarrassed:
