Ni-Cd charging with a Sigma EQ II
« on: April 01, 2016, 04:39:32 pm »

Ni-Cd charging with a Sigma EQ II..??????

I have a couple of Ni-Cd  4.8volt 750mah 4 cell packs, used for power supply to the RX on my daughters boat.
I have a Sigma EQ II charger.
When I put it into Ni-Cd charge mode, I only get the opportunity to change the charge current (I set it up on 0.7amps) not change from "man" to "aut".
I connect the battery pack and switch on, the unit tells me it's checking the battery and then starts to charge.......the display says it's charging at 8.6volts!!!!!

Is that right? surely not?  I don't want to wreck the packs but can see no way to switch to auto charge, or any way to set the charge voltage.......help.

I have a manual, and have read and reread it, when I get to Ni-Cd, it will only do "man".
cannot select " aut", no matter what I do.

Tried it on another pack........checks battery, charges at 8volts...drops to 7.6 volts and seem to hang there, after a while, about an hour, the charger tells me it's full, and when I measure voltage of the pack, it reads 5.8volts....?

It works, but not happy about the voltage it's trying to push in.

The manual says "Each mode can be switched by pressing INC or DEC button simultaneously when the current field is flashing."

Ideally the current should be set at a level such that the charge voltage is no higher than 1.7 volt per cell.
