Kingston Mouldings ...and it’s goodnight from him.

The time has finally come, after more years working in the GRP industry, and turning out fibreglass model boat hulls than I really want to think about, to more or less wind up Kingston Mouldings, and around the end of April 2016, I'll be cleaning off my brushes etc for the last time. The main reason is that Anne and I want to be free to go out and to go away on holiday more often, while we're both still fit and well enough to enjoy it.

The actual finishing date will be governed by when I run out of packing materials, but everyone will be getting what they've paid for, it may be before the end of the month, or it may be slightly after, but what I'm calling a halt to is the mail order side, no more sending my hulls to customers in the UK and around the World.

All is not completely lost though, I realise that this isn't going to help most of you, but given reasonable notice, I'll still be able to turn out a few hulls for anyone able to collect or arrange for someone else to do it for them, but definitely NO MORE MAIL ORDER.

In all the time I've been running Kingston Mouldings, I think I can count the number of awkward or difficult customers on my fingers, most of you have been a pleasure to deal with, and I've made many lifelong friends along the way.

So a sincere thank you to all who have supported this business over the years, the only real downside had been that I haven't had much time for my own modelling, and that's something I plan to put right in the years to come. I have several untouched steam engines, and a couple of unfinished yachts waiting patiently in my workshop, and I'll be building these into sailing models as soon as I catch up with all the overdue DIY jobs around the house and garden.

A few final hull bargains.

I've never kept a very large stock of finished hulls on the shelves, most have always been moulded as orders arrive, but I have usually had a small number in stock, and all those that are left will have to be sold. These are all listed on the website's BARGAINS page, everything is reduced by 20% or more, though I can't reduce the carriage costs, out of my control unfortunately. All hulls will be supplied with the same scale plans as listed on the main Price List.

Hmmmm - Better get my finger out and order a Lloydsman hull then hadn't I?

I have always wanted to build this ship, but now that Robin is hanging up his brushes I had better get a hull while I can and squirrel it away for later  :-))

Robin
What can I say? I remember "Kayem" almost fondly (when I was FLJ and ran ACTion) but I always rated your GRP work higher than anyone else's. I never heard a bad word about Kingston Mouldings and I realised that it was because your care for your customers always shone through - a lesson I was quick to learn.
I hope you and Anne have planned for your retirement and will enjoy every day to the full.
Take care, me duck!

Yes do make the best of your retirement  :}
I have one of your minivap hulls lurking in my shed; when I get around to using it I'll remember that you made it.

I am in touch with Robin with a view to doing this, won't be for another couple of years until he is ready to finish building. He is only stopping mail order now, all his hulls are still available and will continue to be for the next couple of years (but only for collection)  ;)

Hmmmmm! Any suggestions on how I persuade SWMBO that we need to travel half war round the world just to pick up a couple more hulls? In all seriousness the six hulls I have had from Robin have all been first rate as has the service. Retirement will be well deserved and here's hoping it is as good as you hope but if it does not work out you can always make a comeback.

 Cheers, Ian.
