Well, I went this weekend to the event in Northampton.. I must say, I am not going again!!
I mean.. I came with 4 boats and parked up... before I knew it.
I had bought a boat for my son, from the set up trade area.
Then as the day went on I ended up buying more boats, and then offered more boats and then Phil gave my son an old Sea Queen in need of resto........
The problem now is .......................
where to find time to do them all ..
Honestly I came with 4 boats, left with 10............ that's not all of it.. then on the way home following a lovely olderchap and his wife I now have a further 5 !!!!
So I am not coming again.. well unless I come in a VERY small car
15 Boats in there... so now you can see why we didn't come and camp over night LOL..
But honestly.. what a cracking day.. we really enjoyed it.. BIG thanks to every one that has helped top up our workshop with new boat projects.. my lad is keen to try some out and more important get the " Jaw Dropping " IOM Light weight race boat on the water.. I am off to PJ sails soon.. Boy that boat I recon will be fast and just right for him. He was the lad on the 65 Fiesta M sail boat, for almost ALL the day. I taught him the basics of the wind and he is self taught from there on in.. So I know the chap selling us the boat thought it was too much for my lad, yes normally you would be right there, but he is already a condifdent sailor so this IOM ( Not MarbleHead ) will be with him for years to come and he's going to be in at the deep end in terms of speed v skill but i am confident he will be ahead of the game in no time..
As for the others well, thank you.. Steamboat Phil the sea queen will be in the loft for the summer as too much on the go at the mo.. but will come out in the winter for wet days tinkering in the workshop.. so I can see that returning to the water in a year or so
For me I collected my RNLI Life boats for me and one for my son and I to do together..
54" Arun and a Trent.
LOTS Of learning to do there...
My solid sail, sail boat.. well the night before we came I had to change the radio gear due to problems so hence its set up was poor.. but once I tinkered a bit with the excess slack on the rope it was off on its way.. I knew it would have the heads turning.. it's very different, very bobby about boat but it takes all the gusts well..
Thanks to local club member John and his lovely wife My son and I have 5 more boats!! to restore and tinker with.. one boat I am giving to another dad and his son to tinker and learn on with us. They are RC plane fans like us ( only basic park flyers, we just want to chuck and fly, Super Cubs ) so I am giving them a boat to work on and have as it's spreading the boats out there to a new generation.
Sadly my Launch boat did have a fault with some thing on it I think it's the reciever and i only got a short run out on that boat.. so it's back in the workshop for that..
building from plans is NOW on hold! due to projects.. but we will be busy and we will be asking lots of questions so please do help..
Met some great folk this Saturday.. we will come again... but this time to sell my boats to make way for these new ones LOL..
TO be honest I had wanted to sell some of my boats before this weekend, to get some new ones to play with.. so the time has come and I will be selling my long term owned boats soon.
Spearfish
Lesro 70's Pilot boat
Poss my 130cm hull and deck
My Burgundy 130cm speed boat..
details to follow.. the only reason the above will be up for sale is because with all the new projects I can't really kept them All LOL...
Star of the show for me was collecting this from John and his Wife, sadly a past member passed away and we have taken over the reins now for this boat.. We are big fans of sail boats my son and I .. so him with his super fast IOM race boat and me with this stunning 1 meter wooden classic.. I can see lots of father son time at the lake with these two.. RNLI donation on it's way John.
So we will come again next year... but in a smaller car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we can't BUY anything LOL
