I was very pleased to see that Turner and his painting of the Temeraire are to featuure on the new £20 note.

I didn't realise he was that young when he painted it...........a very youthful looking chap.

Turner was over 60 when he painted it. The two images do not need to be chronologically connected.

thank you for that information, and will correct myself and say that I didn't realise he was so young when he started painting, at age 15, I do believe when he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Art, again indeed very youthful looking.

Prior to that , renown for his architectural sketches amongst other materials. And still very youthful.

The steam tug in the painting was William Watkins first purpose built tug to his own design the 'Monarch'

It must be a huge note if the print of the painting is on it, might need a new wallet.

 :-)) The Temeraire was broken up in Rotherithe ,I lived in a street called Temeraire st in Rotherhithe until I got married in 1971 so that picture always reminds me of my childhood :-))

What's a £20 banknote?

As a person of retired age I have only ever seen  ( I think that's what they were) banknotes poking out of the wife's purse.
