What else to see / do in Portsmouth / Swanage
« on: May 10, 2016, 08:54:44 pm »

Leaving for Portsmouth tomorrow morning and Historical Dockyard is on the list but what else to look at  and where to get a descent dinner ? Saturday we will go to Swanage, as the Tank Museum calls again (been thee in 2007) and Mrs. Tica wants to visit Monkey World and I have to obey  :-)) so any advice on what else to see there

Just meeting some model boaters for a pint is also a option.

btw we will go back on Wednesday .

The historic dockyard will take about 2 days to see everything,  also in Portsmouth there is the D day museum and the royal armouries museum.
Best place to find somewhere for dinner is Albert Road lots of choices.
To talk to models some of the Portsmouth model boat display team members will be in their club house at the Eastney Pump House, Henderson Road, from about 20:00hrs for a build night on Thursday.

The Submarine Museum across the harbour at Gosport is very much worth a visit as well. There is usually a direct waterbus or it is about a 10 minute walk from the ferry pontoon.

Hi all

Thanks for the input.

We did the Dockyard unfortunately HMS Warrior was closed but nothing (easily found) on their homepage about that. Victory was a good visit the same with HMS M33 even though the "guard" wasn't that informative when he stopped us when we were trying to enter, we had to wait for guide, fair enough but he could have told us that instead of chatting with a friend.

The Submarine museum was the best, the guide had served on the displayed sub and was a excellent guide  :-))

Didn't managed to go for the Thursday evening as suggested, the wife also had something to say.

We did take the Swanage - Pool ferry and did travel with the steam train, Tank Museum and Monkey world (nice with a family reunion  %% ) and then we ran out of time, but a very good week with extremely good weather, so we cam home with a good tan.

Hope to see some of you at the International Modelboat exhibition in November.
