That photo gives us a fine example of a waterline as it should be - i.e. Straight.

Thank you for sharing.

Regards,

Ray.

:o....the reverse mirror image reflection shows curvature & a draft or waterline can be straight but not in a 3D view  <*<......

Looks like the image was Photoshopped? :o...........Derek

Derek, please do not insult me, there only thing altered there was the colours, and that was just to take the worst of the streetlight glow away, as I hate photoshop and to tell you the truth cant even use it for much more than altering hues and contrasts

Dear wbeedie..........my comment was an observation only and not intended as a critical comment of your work %)

The original image as posted shows an above water waterline that is near level including the stern, however is a conflict in the image of the reflection ........this 'level' aspect may be some optical quasm as seen in an 'orthographic' view......which is now termed as 3D :-))

To be truthful Derek, my first part of the comment was harsh, but due to the amount of people who rely on photoshop to make a good picture very good in my opinion spoils the art of photography, it has its time and place BUT its not something I use myself unless I stack between 3 and 9 pictures to make a HDR picture which does give depth in field, what probablt gives this picture an unrealistic look is I  was looking down on the boat from the pier, and the harshness of light was dialed down a notch or five as can be seen in the original picture pre cropping, also its a longer exposure, between 6 and 8 seconds which helps flatten the water a bit :-))

Another longer exposure, a bit too long as it has blurred the picture with the boat moving at the hook, both boats owned by same man and have worked on both of them

Hi if you look carefully at the picture the waterline IS perfectly straight it is the image that is wrong , it is an optical illusion and it Shows a curve because the image is from underneath the boat and is showing the hull curvature from forward to aft looking upwards.
