Hi
This is my first boat build so go easy!
The inlaws gave me the RNLI branded Severn Class for Christmas(with a bit of direction) I was aware of the short falls so I got to work straight away. At first I tried the set up in the picture below using 2 ESC , V tail mixer and 2.4Ghz Rx. Completely useless! The brake function on the ESC made the steering hit and miss!
So after much head scratching and internet searching I settled for this,
Not true to scale but works well, the battery goes in the modified original battery compartment. I have used an Mtroniks viper 10 amp ESC, M400 motor driving a 30mm 3 blade nylon prop , FlySky tx, cooling jacket is home made (and works!) Rudder is a small brass one with a .5kg servo all mounted on some 3mm ply.
Once the propulsion was done I repainted the whole model using a mixture of Halfords rattle cans and humbrol enamels applied with my air brush. Also cut a hole in the deck to allow some access when it is screwed on.
She wears the markings of the Torbay life boat which are all from model flags.
Then I got a bit carried away and fitted some lights, which will be switched in the future.
And here she is dead in the water at Clacton after the first cheap ebay 380 motor over sped burnt out after 5 mins!
She seems to be fairly stable in the water, turns well, quick enough all though may try 3 s and above all she didn't sink! The first time I took her to Maldon a stock one was there and lads parents could not believe the difference, and asked loads of questions!
Thanks for looking
Jon
