« on: May 22, 2016, 05:43:59 pm »

Can anyone tell me their idea of what the best one metre RTR or ARTR  RC yacht is out at the moment?

Is it a one metre to race and therefore must pass measurements.
If not the Joysway DragonFlite 95 is far and away the best performing
Yacht of its size being designed by three of the best model yachts men
in the UK and built by Joysway to their specs.

I don't plan on racing it, I am just looking to buy an RC 1 meterish yacht that has no real drawbacks.

In that case the DragonFlite 95 fits the bill.
Beware of other cheap Chinese models
which need a lot of work to make them sail
properly.

Loads at     https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/category/Yachts       .....

Although temporarily out of stock, the Thunder Tiger Voyager has a solid reputation. Probably why it is sold out.
Thunder Tiger is a Taiwan company that has been around for 30 years, and has built a solid reputation for original design.
Some Chinese companies have been around for a lot less time but are getting better at copying.

Thanks to Ned and Bob for your assistance, I finally bought the Joysway Dragonflite 95 and I must say I'm impressed with the build. Its almost a new language to me and I only finished today. She's not been on the water yet but I will get my chance. Hoping to call in on Wicksteed on Saturday, hope its good.

Thanks again,

Ray

Well done, you have bought wisely, the DFL seems superb, IU have the Orion and D'Force and they sail very well. On both though I have replaced the on-off switch with a Hall Magnetic Switch from    www.T9Hobbysport.com   as these did fail, but Joysway may have upgraded these now.

All the best,
Lakeside Bob.

The DF95 is a superb yacht, designed by top RC yacht skippers & really is head & shoulders above any other RTR yacht on the market. Plenty of tuning information out there on the web. I'm sure you will enjoy sailing it.

Well I've sailed my dragonflite 95. You see with our local club we only have access to our water on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons as long as the weather is Okay. Since I went to Wicksteed last weekend and wednesday was a really bad storm with very high winds etc, today was my first chance. And the boat or should I say yacht, was superb. I made a mistake not making the jib sail quite tight enough but one of our members who is a known sailor helped me out but otherwise all was fine. It sailed brilliantly and I have zero experience of sailing. But it sails superb and I am so pleased with my yacht. Thank you for asking. It also attracted quite a bit of attention at the club it is so fast and responsive. . .

Gents
There is a very active discussion on this boat here in the U.S. on rcgroups.com here's a link to that discussion. Designers input there, dealer support, tuning, racing insights - pretty much whatever you might want to know about these boats can be found there.

97K views and more than 1100 posts - worth a few minutes to check it out. Congrats on the new boat. Good decision.

Just an update. The forum on rcgroups.com on the DF 95 has over 238,000 views with several thousand posts. The DF 65 discussion has more than 600,000 views and thousands of comments/posts. Since my original post I have purchased both boats as well as their cousin the Affinity an RG65 boat made by the same people. All solid values. Worthy of consideration.

The Thunder Tiger Voyager has a solid reputation. Probably why it is sold out.
I agree that the TT Voyager has a reputation, but it's not a good one...
The first version was the ABS hull 12M AC cupper Australia II, which I own, after several modifications it's a good sailboat, out of the box it's a questionable ensemble...
The versions II and III are based on the ETNZ, the hull is good, but the rest needs (a lot of) work, out of the box these boats are an absolute dud.

Regards, Jan.

Sadly, boys will be boys as the old saying goes {:-{   Seems some take things a bit to seriously on occasion and others have to witness behavior better suited for field sports! RC sailing is in my view a "gentleman's" pastime and those that would turn it into something else would be better off finding other venues the might provide them with a better place to act out their tensions.
This is good healthy fun where fellowship should be the order of the day!
