Robbe Navy Sound Unit.
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:08:51 pm »

really weird issue.

When I sold my tug. I took out the robby sound unit and put on the shelf. went to test it this week and can here it turn on but doesn't respond to and input from either the thorttle or switch unit.

It still works as if i move the dip switch on the unit, it goes into test mode and play all the sounds in turn.

I tried all the different mode on both the module and my f16c tx but only get the sound out amp from the speaker.

any ideas.

cheers

Tim,

Is the sound unit definitely getting the PWM signal it requires to trigger the sound event - is it possible the channel is limited in PWM range?

What Robbe unit is it _ I think I may have the same one in a boat - I know you said Navy but does it have a part number?

Tim,

Looks like this needs the switch unit in the TX - multi switch encoder

Quote
The sound module features an integral 8-channel multi-switch decoder which is used to switch the individual sounds on and off.

Quote
Navy Sound Modul Pt No 8270 Ref: 2770
Navy Sound Modul Pt No 8270 For Use with F Series Robbe Radios
A sound module for model boats, containing six digitally stored original sounds. At any time a signal can be superimposed on the engine noise simultaneously, such as the Martins horn, foghorn, ship’s bell, typhoon or destroyer siren, without interrupting the sound of the diesel engine.
The diesel engine sound varies according to the speed of the drive motor, and features start-up and run-down sound phases.
The sound module features an integral 8-channel multi-switch decoder which is used to switch the individual sounds on and off.
A further two multi-switch switched channels are available for any purposes you wish, and can be used for direct control of auxiliary functions drawing up to 1 A (lights, anchor winch etc.). All inputs and outputs are protected against short-circuit and reverse polarity.
The sound module can be used with the earlier 6-channel and the current 8-channel robbe Multi-Switch modules, and also with other makes of similar unit.
A powerful, high-volume amplifier stage provides distortion-free reproduction, and the volume is infinitely variable. A Multi-Switch module must be installed in any robbe Futaba system transmitter to control the sound effects.Specification::
Weight: 65 g Voltage: 6 - 12 Volts
current: 20 - 30 mA Dimensions: 77 x 48 x 24 mmmore Specification:
Motor connection: -14 ... +14 Volts
Switched power: 1 Amp
Power output: approx. 6 W into 8 Ohms at 12 V
Loudspeaker: 4 - 8 Ohm

Hi g6swj

I got the module (6 switch version) and used to work perfect. tried one of mine decoder just in case the switch unit was broken but responds to the switch input fine so must be the sound unit it self.

cheers

Check the cable and connector of the sound module first - those usually create most problems.
