RMS Queen Mary (The first one!)
« on: June 07, 2016, 04:52:13 pm »

Those Mayhemmers who went to the Coalville boat show may remember the large "Queen Mary" hull with drawings that was sold in the Bring and Buy.  It's in my possession now and I'm researching and making some decisions about the build.  I'm looking for some information that doesn't seem readily available on the "tinterweb"
First and most important.  Does any one have the Underhill drawings for the "Mary"?    There were drawings with the model but the side view GA was missing and as I have most of the drawings I don't want to have to buy a second set (They're 50 quid a set).
I need to find the dimensions of the portholes, both the normal round ones and the width and height of the oval ones that form 2 rows immediately below the promenade deck.  What would be great would be if someone could post a picture of the relevant part of the drawings with a ruler in it for scale.
I'd be really grateful for any help along those lines.  I found a copy of Conway's Anatomy of the Ship but the only side views are to 1/700th scale and not accurate enough to get sizes from although sufficient for the spacings.
Secondly  I'd like to try and find out a bit more about the model itself.  A gentlemen did tell me that the model was about 50 years old and had spent a long time in a garage, where I presume it parted company with the superstructure.  If anyone knows more about this model I'd be grateful for that info too.
Thanks in Advance.

There is a very large model of the Mary in the Southampton maritime museum approx 12 ft long excellent model. I have half a dozen piccies but the file sizes are too large for posting here I'll try and resize but I've just gone onto Windows 10 and not sure if i can resize yet.

I'm just completing the 1/570 Revell model, which is pretty poor in detail - no piccies yet.

You might want to try and get hold of the 'Anatomy of the Ship' for the QM  - I don't know if it's still in print though. It has loads of drawings and photos of her.
