well following on from last post i really want to build a RNLI boat. dont fancy any of the commercialy aivalable ones,except maybe Lesro's Atlantic 21. it sudddenly occured to me that it would be fun(i'm a pervert) to scratch build my own. then i thought why not make it to a larger scale(to suit any tube/pipe aivalable) may then be easier to build the outboards to work.
so question, are the RNLI plans for the 21 good enough to get the angles for the tubes?
and does any one have photos they can share?

Colin,

Is it a "21" (21ft long) you want to build or the newer Atlantic 85 (27ft long full size) ?

You should be able to get your angles from the plans. Also plans were available for the tractor unit and also the trailer if you want to go the whole hog.

Only problem I found with the Lesro kit was the low freeboard at the rear of the deck area as there is no barrier at the stern to stop the water flowing onto the deck.  All the radio gear is packed under the deck and secured with numerous self tap screws.  A pain to get at the radio gear if you want to maintain integrity within the hull compartment.

depends on which i can get the most photos of the easiest. not easy getting away to take photos.
RNLI dont do plans for Atlantic 85, but thet do for a Atlantic 75. that would be cool.
going to see what i can find on line.

just taken a gander. better photos of the 75.
i was at the RNLI open day. didnt take nearly enough photos, but did get on or two of "Tabbycat", any idea which class she is?

Tabbycat is an 85 she was offically named on the Friday before the open days and is a reliff boat.

Don't know if this is any good its a drawing of the early 21 with a plywood hull.


If your looking for somthing intresting and different why not have a go at a McLachlan Inshore boat 18' 6" they only built 12 i think and it would make an intresting model.
 There is still one in the yard at Poole.

Can you use standard off the self outboard units for this? They could be resprayed with some scale stickers.
