18/19 June Tug towing "pro-am" weekend at Balne Moor
« on: June 08, 2016, 12:13:36 pm »

Hello Folks,

Here is your opportunity to come along to Balne Moor on either or both days and have a go at tug towing.  You will get the opportunity to work with an experienced "tugger" to see how they tow vessels through the harbours at Balne Moor.

It does not matter if you have not got a working tug, someone will lend you one.

£4 for one day or £6 for the weekend. On each day events will start at about 10.30.

Hot sandwiches will be available on both days (up to about 13.00) as well as tea and coffee and home made cakes all day (or until the cakes have gone).

For your sat nav use DN14 0ER.  We are just a few miles from Junction 34 of the M62 - full map directions are on the new website; just follow the link below.

Why not come along and have a go.

Please note that as previously advertised Mobile Marine Models will attend this event with a sales stand, but will now only be there on Saturday due to other commitments

Balne Moor should be moved to a more convenient(to me) location.

Looks like wonderful fun had by all.

The Svitzer Maverick has a very unusual shaped hull.

Could  I ask you why this is and what does the large middle shaped "bulge" in the underwater hull house.

Never seen anything like that.

Hello Jim,

Maverick belongs to John - "Poll" on here.

I'm sure he'll soon be along to explain.

Hi Jim.
Sorry I did not get back to  you until now, the tug started off with a Portgarth  hull that was not in a good condition, it started off to be another carrousel type tug hence the bulwarks missing & if you look were the accommodation is it is level  with the sides of the hull this is where the towing ring would have been, but on the eleventh hour I changed my mind, not forgetting folks I have the old carrousel on the shelf. Using the  modellers licence I made the tug as a towing tug with nothing to knock off.

Then down the line a new tug came along called the Geano purpose built for escort towing & this is where the skegs on the side of the tug came to light, so I could not get a hull so I thought I will had these on to the tug I have & hay presto there you have it.
