« on: June 11, 2016, 01:50:49 am »

well I was goping to draw my first boat and build it then today the company I did a lot of aircraft for asked me to draw them up 1/32 scale Nautilus from capt nemo. they got me some original drawings from disney showing interior etc so I guess with the money they offered me i cant turn it down so I figured might as well start a thread and get some help with sub guys on the radio etc stuff I will need to figure out

Will it have interiors? I believe there were some 1/32 scale Nemo/Arronax/etc figures out there at one time, but I've lost the details. I look forward to the thread in due course.

Good grief, at 1/32 it'll be around 2' deep and 8 feet long, going by the scale of the ships wheel!

This'll be worth watching.

A 1/32nd scale nautilus should come out to about 66", not 115"!!

not according to the dimensions given 308' x 12 = 3696" / 32 = 115.5"

So, the discrepancy in length could be due to the assumption of the "real" Nautilus. The current argument is either 178' or 200' (this is from decades of these guys studying the movie and movie set plans) as well as analyzing the movie props used. Like I alluded to earlier, plans change from paper to set. At 178' some sets would not fit and at 200' it might make a closer fit. When making the movie, they were not thinking there would be a bunch of fanatics, er, fans scrutinizing every frame of the film. The real desire, for the likes of us, is to create the most accurate version possible. That can take the form of artistic licensing or accurate.

As far as the site goes, go to the root of the site: http://www.nautilussubmarine.com
At the top will be a link to register. The site is definitely not dead and I strongly suggest you get on there.

Peace,

I'm also a member of NautilusSubmarine.
Custom Replicas, before they closed shop, manufactured a 1/32 Nautilus which measures just over 66".  Extremely detailed model, the include PE grating and a full wheelhouse interior.  A good number of members of NS own one of these kits.

Greetings, I'm Mikel / Modeleer: hailing ship to ship from Portland, Oregon.
I'm one of the founding members of the original Vulcania Volunteers
& I also host a Goff/Nautilus enthusiast / study group on facebook.
facebook title: NAUTILUS by GOFF / 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea {1954}
(I too am a member of NautilusSubmarine)

A good-friend, colleague & licensed Disney artist :
David McCamant spent 4 yrs creating the difinitive Goff/Nautilus Plans in 2008.

Harper Goff's Nautilus is 200 ft long according to the Disney Archives

So... a Goff/Nautilus model 115.5 inches long = approx. 1/21st scale.
And a "1/32 Scale Capt Nemos Nautilus" measures in at 75 inches long.
The 66.5" Customs Replicas Nautilus model is closer to 1/35th scale than 1/32nd scale (hi Tommie!)
For those of you interested in scale realism applied to the Goff/Nautilus,
I'm providing a comprehensive list of the Goff/Nautilus in various popular modeling scales:
Scale / Inches
1/1000th = 2.4"
1/400th = 6"
1/350th = 6.8"
1/200th = 12"
1/160th = 15"
1/144th = 16.6"
1/100th = 24"
1/96th = 25"
1/87th = 27.5"
1/72nd = 33.3"
1/48th = 50"
1/35th = 68.5"
1/32nd = 75"
1/25th = 96"
1/24th = 100"
1/18th = 133.3
1/16th = 150"
1/12th = 200"
1/10th = 240"
1/9th = 266.6
1/6th = 400"
1/4th = 600"

Thanks I appreciate it Mikel. I agree and it goes by what most have said I sent off your detailed reasoning to the guy wanting me to draw up plans for an R/C Model and waiting his response. I am posting link to the pdf plans he sent me. they are very detailed and really good only seems like the dimensions for overall is wrong. hope ppl like them this is what I was told supposedly came from disney http://www.proflooney.net/Nemo/Nautilus Plan.pdf

If it helps, I have the set downloaded from the original site, including set designs for the interiors. They are on about 8 floppy disks, so may not work these days. I'd be happy to loan them. PM me if required.

I'm posting this image & a linc (at bottom) with a 'fair warning' proviso:
{And because I adamantly dislike seeing good-work wasted via bad-information}
a decade of meticulous study have conclusively proved to dedicated, discerning & discriminating Goff/Nautilus enthusiasts
that models built directly from these plans will definitely result in significant scale & detail discrepancies.

Here is a linc to a relatively complete collection of most of the available 'original' Disney Nautilus Plans

thanks for the offer Joppy but ill be ok. I may wany to be accurate but for this job I will use the info he gave me and correct the overall dimensions as I sent him the info gleamed from here and he oked the changes. once I getdone i will prob use my plans to create one for myself but as I found out in the scale aircraft community that you plane must match your documentation so with the documentation I have if it matches that I will be happy as I am not going to delve too deep into the exactness I just want to get something to sail. like I said I just upset I have this project and nothing to float now lol still trying to come up with a set of ready to go boats plans and no dont want a clyde puffer its not really my style. I would love to find plans hough for a PBR Patrol Boat River from viet Nam Era it said the hull was from some Cruiser but couldnt find drawings for that either. lol my luck with boats has been sucking since i decided to get into boats I would Love to do

Ahoy there. I,am also a member of nautilus submarine, an  new member of this site. I ,am one of the lucky ones that got a Scott Brodin /Jim Key nautilus. I have a set of the original figures that came with a boat I never got. I did get a set of the redone figures. I decided to creat my owne figures. they may be a little larger the 1/32 scale, but I did get the seal of approveal from the late Tom Schurman. I don't know how to post photos, so if you are interested, please pm me.
