Removing paint fibreglass hull
« on: June 26, 2016, 03:14:35 pm »

Hi, I want to repaintt my 5ft hull which has been painted (couple of times I think) the paint looks thick and maybe been brushed on.
Should I buy a mouse sander and what grades of paper should I use? Im concerned about problems when I repaint with aerosol cans, when the paint cracks/seperate etc....
Or should I paint stripper it? I have no knowledge of working with fibreglass so any advice would be great.

Right this is easy what you need is a paint stripper that is fiberglass freindly....do an e bay search in the marine or boating section for some

..also look in B&Q read what it says on the tin before you buy.....alternativly go into a boat shop...chandelers .....even search for Glassplies...they are a GRP specialist..they are in southport they will defo have some and they do mail order.

Use an ETCH  primer first...halfords sell it and simply use halfords car paint and spray away   happy days

Best thing to use to remove the stripper is a PLASTIC car filler applicator available at Halfords or any paint motor factors
