Another newbie
« on: June 24, 2016, 11:21:10 pm »

Good Evening all,

I thought I'd best say hello before I start asking questions.

I'm relatively new to modelling, I've built several cars previously, and a single boat.  (not very well executed I may add)

However after clearing out the loft at my mums house, I came across an RC boat my dad bought for me when I was very young.  I'm now looking to refit it all and give it an overhaul.

However, since I last looked at ESC's and motors it seems many things have changed, i vaguely recall having to match turns on the motor to the ESC.  Time to do some new research and see if I can get my head around it all again.

So if you've any good articles etc I should read, that would be great, and if you've any suggestions of reputable suppliers for the components I'll need, I'd also greatly appreciate that.

Thanks
Chris

Can you post a picture of this RC boat, the internals as well plus the radio equipment, then it will be easier to advise.Do you have a Model Boat club and lake locally, this is always a good starting point I found. Lakeside Bob.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the Mayhem!

What type of boat and how big?
If you can post a photo, that would be most helpful.
( PM me if you having problems posting the photos )

Thanks for the welcome gents.

I'll get some photos this week, and share them on here. In term of the radio gear etc, I'm considering replacing it all for a newer 2.4GHz system, it currently doesn't have a speed controller, but a servo, that actuates an arm which triggers a small switch, so it goes from zero to 100% throttle in a click.

I think it's due a full refit, so new motor, esc, radio gear, servos, probably a new prop and shaft too

Thanks for the link too, I'll have a good read now

Thanks
Chris
