HMS Bristol update
« on: July 10, 2016, 12:10:11 pm »

Hi must be so long that  I started this build that I cant find the original post lol
A few shots of her in the test tank !!! getting her keel wet for the first time, incredibly stable model (1/72) so very pleased on that no leaks from the stabilisers so again good.  Based  on Jecobin plans but with all the mistakes rectified.  Having access to the 1/1 version helps :)

Well a bit more time has elapsed, and here are two shots of HMS Bristol getting her bottom properly wet in Gloucester docks.  Very pleased with handling, stabilisers work a treat, so when she heels out a turn outer, push her up and inner pull her down, all done by simple linkage to the rudder bar.
Also as she was fastest ship in the fleet once, I opened her up and at full blast she is awesome.

Will try to keep this build up to date.

A few shots showing Bristol as she is, still WIP though, started to fit all the loose items to the superstructure, so hopefully next sail it will lokk a bit more warship like  :}

She has her turret, so she is definitly going to look warlike on the water! Interesting to see the side by side funnels. That is a blast from the past design wise. The last ships to have this arrangement (as far as I know) was the Insect class Gunboats with the Majestic pre dreadnoughts before that.

Lovely work Rob:O)

Funnel arrangement dictated by the use of gas turbines and steam turbines, hence fastest ship in the fleet at one time, she also has a spiral staircase which is unusual, but for me the most important thing is she is the last survivor of the Task Force and she also is still a commissioned ship.

Another claim to fame is she once had a swimming pool on the aft deck, created when limbo mortar was removed, caused a few raised eyebrows from the Yanks when invited to a pool party on board {-) {-) {-)

Ned

Strictly speaking the funnels of Intrepid and Fearless were not side by side.  %)

Latest sailing with some superstructure added and the 1006 radar rotating and managed to get her up to speed and pleased to note the stabilisers actually do hold her steady
