T.O.N. 12 - T.O.N. 56 etc
« on: July 18, 2016, 10:28:14 pm »

Can anyone enlighten me as to what these names represent ?

I built the T.O.N.12 many years ago and was asked by someone whether this was some form of Registration, or perhaps the vessel tonnage or length.

I've done a bit of searching on the internet but can't find a definitive answer...any ideas folks ?

Regards,

Ray.

TON refers to a registration.  In the UK TO refers to Truro ( see http://www.padstow-harbour.co.uk/fishing_boat_reg_codes.pdf )
In this case TON refers to Tonning in Germany ( see http://navalmarinearchive.com/research/fishing_ports.html )

Ah, yes that makes sense - and thank you for the link TailUK - saved for future reference.

Perhaps I ought to make new decals with the 2 dots above the O and remove the full stops. :-)
