Nice. Brings back a few memories of when I was a kid. Having said that, I still act like one now! :-)

HI Mark
I really do like the look of the sea view that you are building i think it will be a very nice model, it is some thing different from the normal subs i would even be tempted to build it myself but i said i was not going to build another sub.
     All the best John

I have now started on the rebuild/restoration of this 80" Seaview that I got hold of a few month`s ago, have taken a few photo`s so here go`s

I have decided to remove the window frames from the front four windows which incedently are not windows but are transparent hull plates as apparantley they were not fitted on the sub in the series, I have also thin`d out the spar between the windows as they looked a bit thick

I have also been busy with my dremmel tool and a few sanding drums to remove a massive amount of fibreglass from various parts of the inner hull both top and bottom I have also removed the old holding system for the Water tight tube from the top of the hull which you can still see in pictures these were strips of wood with brass hook type affairs which the tank hung from as far as I can tell

The next pictures show the state of play underneath the hull with all the flood holes that were in her I have refiled these holes with the intention of re-drilling less but bigger holes in the bottom of the hull

you can also see that I have cut out the area under the nose where the Flying Sub (FS-1) is housed, I cut this out due to it being the wrong shape and far to thick and heavy for what I want to do at the front of the sub

Next pictures show all the flood holes now re-filled and awaiting a tidy up with some wet and dry and lots of elbow work

I filled the flood holes in the bottom of the piece that I cut out under the nose with the intention of trying to make it lighter but gave up after finding out it was really thick fibreglass and plastic card and as I said earlier was the wrong shape as you can see from this picture. the hole in the hull has been filled with fibreglass and squared up at the front as it should be.

At this point I got hold of a pretty good set of Bluprints off the internet and noticed that the rear fins were set at to high of an angle so it was with great tripidation that I set about correcting this luckily the builder had fastened the fins on with screws which all snapped off on attempting to remove them so I resorted to brute strength and removed them with no damage to the main hull or to the fins themselves

After a few hours with plenty of water and wet n dry I had removed all the old fibreglass and filler that was holding the fins on I also removed most of the filler from the fins

First I refitted the left fin back onto the hull ensuring it was positioned in the correct place and at the right  angle

over the next few days I worked to ensure that both fins were in the correct position and both fins were at the correct angle once I was happy with the way they both looked on the hull I tacked them in place with resin finally fixing them in place with tissue and then resin and micro balloons, I think that I got the angle and look of the fins quite good
