Customs Cutter based on Smeed's Guardsman
« on: February 19, 2019, 02:46:11 pm »

Product of early last year a Customs Cutter based on Smeed's Guardsman with some reworking to recreate Lively built by Cox and Co Falmouth 1910/12ish - she worked the Fal estuary all her working life, finally decommissioned 1930's.
The boat is to a scale of 1/24 not as the Smeed original which was/is 1/32.
The hull is of balsa bread and butter construction with a tissue/resin overlay both internally and externally for strength. The deck is individually laid strip, and the superstructures are of 1.5mm birch ply overlaid with planking etc, a toil but worth it I  think! There are also cabin lights installed but not navigation lights - she worked on station from dawn til' dusk, a quaint situation by todays standards!
I have recently acquired a 1/24 scale Grand Prix figures kit from the 70's one of the figures is a representation of Jackie Stewart. These figures will be adapted to populate the model.
On the water  she performs adequately although not a competition winner.
