Anyone got $550 Million?
« on: August 10, 2016, 12:55:43 am »

Australia first on line census last night.  {:-{
Guess what!
It crashed  %%

"The ABS and Census websites are currently experiencing an outage. We are working to restore the service. We will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience."

The ABS claim it was overseas hackers attacking the web site with denial of service but us conspiracy theorists reckon it was 4 million households trying to log on at the same time to avoid the $180 per day fine.  <:(

So Martin, Mayhem is not the only one asking for more funds  >>:-(

We're currently in a caravan park so had a paper form delivered to our van. We filled it in and handed in to the office where the census official was collecting them.The government was warned that problems would occur, but they knew better <*<  Problems did occur and the web site crashed - surprise, surprise. The deadline for completing the census has now been extended {:-{

So one of the questions should be
Where were you residing or staying when the system went down?

It was supposed to handle 1,000,000 people per hour.
Didn't they realise that 3,000,000 would go on line straight after supper  ;D
so of course it crashed.  >:-o

The Titanic was indeed meant to be unsinkable, but the technology of the time did not allow the presence of icebergs to be accurately predicted. In the case of the census, the know-all bureaucrats were warned on numerous occasions that the system was vulnerable to attack, and also would not handle the sheer volume of people trying to access it in the initial stages. They chose to ignore the advice and blindly forge ahead, with predictable results. Another all too common bureaucratic bungle <*<

The numnuts in Canberra, should have asked the Queensland government about the dramas when their new Health Dept payroll which was also designed and rolled out by IBM. It cost Queensland millions on top of what was paid to IBM and at the end of the day IBM could not be sued.

One day our politicians will wake up but am not holding my breath.

This fiasco is also in keeping with the logic of the recent double dissolution election that returned the opposite desired result. %% %% %% <*< <*< <*<

Sorry Derek but perhaps I should have put the post in the Humour section.  %%
I know when I helped the Victorian Government Department I worked for, to test their new 'All singing, all dancing' computer system, our team very quickly proved that it would not work.   6 months later we spent another 6 months to test 2 systems.   A lot of work. Governments have not learned anything in 25 years. <:(

Hi All
After a dozen calls a week before the census, I finally got to order a paper copy(11 o'clock at night) .
So I thought that was bad, so on line was going to be a disaster!!!!
Another PM disaster, like calling an election and ending up scraping a win(if he can call it one)by the skin of his teeth!!!
