The Silent Deep - A good read.
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:06:50 am »

Just a third of the way though the 800 odd pages of 'The Silent Deep - The Royal Navy Submarine Service since 1945' by Peter Hennessy and James Jinks and it's really fascinating.
No help in modelling but it takes the story from 1945 to pretty well the present, through the cold war and the 'quiet games' and the politics of the deterrent to the Falklands episodes and the development of the submarine from the late U-boats, through Hydrogen Peroxide and the nuclear fun and games to now.
It's the first sub book I've read since 'One of our Submarines' and worth every minute spent on it.
