Hi peeps,  I'm looking for plans and pics of S.T Napia, if any of you kind folk out there have any info I would be  very grateful.  Also, anything to do with empire class tugs, I'm looking at purchasing the Models by design 'Cervia' hull but would like to build either the Napia (Empire Jester) or a variation of an Empire tug. I've ordered the Cervia plans just to get the scale right once I've scaled them up from 1/48 to 1/24!
Would be happy to pay for any plans of the Napia if indeed they exist!

hello Davejay.      I have a set of drawings from the Imperial war museum of The Napia ( Empire Jester ) and her sister Empire samson,they are only the general arrangement but very good i used them to make a model of her a few years ago, if you would like to borrow them to copy P M me with your address and e mail as I also have a few photos of her.

By the way the Cervia and Napia were two entirely different classes of tug, Cervia was is a Foremost class and Napia was a Modified Warrior class.
Napia was foot longer, 3 feet wider and 1ft 6 inches deeper than Cervia, Napia also had a very wide rubbing band at deck level where Cervia has none,
Cervia 105ft 1" x 27ft x11ft 3"  233 tons and 900 hp.
Napia  106ft 3" x30ft   x12ft 9"  269 tons and 1200 hp

Thank Ken it's the second one that I have built the last I saw of the first one was a picture of the lake at New Brighton and she was there, long time ago now though.  Geo

A little more info on the Empire tug classes for Davejay.
There were 11 classes of tug built with The Empire prefix as follows,
Englishman  8 built.
Modified Englishman. 5 built
Maple. 10 built
Modified Maple. 4 built.
Warrior. 16 built.
Modified Warrior 21 built.
Foremost 20 built.
Hoedic. 18 built.
Birch. 19 built.
Stella 8 built.
Improved Stella 11 built.
5 further tugs were built that do not fall into the above classes.
Hornby  2 built .
Lawn  3 built.


Out of these classes the Englishman and Modified Englishman were deep sea tugs, and the others coastal or harbour.

Wow, thanks for the great information,  really helpful thank you. It's frustrating  when you Google something and you end up with a load of Internet crud! One of the great things about this forum is that the crud is cleared out of the way to make way for decent and focused answers!
I've ordered 'British steam tugs' (Noble).......I take it that this was a wise choice!?.

Thanks for posting the pics of another gorgeous looking tug. Tugs always look busy, they have a particular business like stance about them, colour schemes can sometimes alter that look but in various ways.
