Help with Yacht Identification
« on: September 22, 2016, 02:01:40 pm »

Hi All,

I have absolutely no idea about model yachts and the art of non motorized sailing, that said I have come across the yacht shown in the pictures and would really appreciate some help in trying to identify it and then maybe I'll be able to find out how to rig it.

the following are the measurements:

Hull - 1420mm
Top of hull to top of mast - 2080mm
Sail - 1780mm at highest point and 600mm at broadest width
Keel - 470mm in length and weighing 5kg

Cheers Shaun

I think (but not 100% sure) that the yacht could be a Mustang, as sailed only by the Fleetwood MYPBC and is listed on the right hand side of their website. The Mustang is a large Una-rig yacht, which it was rumoured was an improvement on the much smaller, but no longer made Mickey Finn. Might be worth contacting someone at the Fleetwood Club's yachting section for further information.

Hello Flack,

Your boat is not a Mickey Finn.
The Finn has a much more rounded Hull.

Thank you both for your replies, I have sent an e-mail to the Fleetwood Club and hopefully will get an answer.

Looks very like a Six Metre from the 1920's/30's here's mine for comparison.

Since when has a 6M been Una rigged?
It seems that every yacht query lately
has to be a 6 metre. %)

No probs Neil,
Your  6 M looks a great yacht.
I will be thinking of one when
my Nottingham J takes to the
water.

Thanks to Tony 52 I have now had confirmation that the boat is a "Mustang" and is sailed almost exclusively a Fleetwood

Pleased you have a successful identification, Shaun.

I have only ever heard of this class at the lakeside and never seen one, until you posted the photographs. I think the logo on the sail is the giveaway, it is similar to the Ford Mustang car badge. Quite a large model too, which should perform well.
