Poldark pumping engine
« on: October 03, 2016, 02:42:51 pm »

Watching the latest Poldark episode last night....

No wonder Poldark's cousin drowned in the mine! The external shots of the pumping engine house clearly showed that no pump was attached to the end of the beam engine!

As I remember the early Cornish engines (of Poldark's time) were mainly atmospheric without Watt's parallel motion, hence the curved end of the beam to accommodate a chain linkage.

Poldark should have gone to evening classes!

Ian.

The production team is primarily interested in providing lots of opportunity for passion, drama, and in the case of such programs as Game of Thrones, plenty of bosoms:O)

Sadly they rarely share our interest in engineering/industrial archaeology  <*<

Checked again last night, and still no sign of the pump being attached to the beam........ {:-{

I understand from Radio Times that the mine owner is in financial difficulties (I don't watch the actual programme).
Maybe the unpumped water has ruined productivity and now he can't afford to buy the extra part to fix it?

I watched a film last night when a brunette rode off on a motor-cycle. On arrival at her destination, she was a blonde. Later on when leaving, she was a brunette again! I didn't lose any sleep over it! %)
