Akula 1/144 scratch built
« on: October 15, 2016, 01:22:45 am »

My first post here.
After 4 years I have almost completed my Akula in 1/144 scale, length approx 870mm.
I did not have access to etched parts so the gratings and stuff are drilled as small as I could and are functional to let the air escape when diving.
This is my first sub and first scratchbuilt ever so please be gentle on me.
Grtz.

Very tidy model, well done :-))

I like the surface detailing, I notice the subtle deck profile aft of the sail, this is very often missed by modellers, who maintain the circular cross section right aft.

Very nice.

Sadly those tiny vents won't be functional, first dive and they'll skin over. Holes and slots need to be about 3mm/1.8" to be of benefit.

For a first scratch build model, I would say that is pretty amazing, big thumbs up from me :-))

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
