If the wiring is already in place why not look at replacing the old bulbs with led bulbs and changing the voltage to cope.

I have been thinking about that I have found some 6v fisheye led's, I have also found those bulbs it appears I have been putting too much voltage through them they are 3v and I have been puttin 6v, being new to the hobby I am still learning

just ordered 10x5mm wide angle led's and as a back up a voltage reducer and some of the proper bulbs, we shall see how that plays out

Now might be a good time to search for and learn the rules about LEDs, the top two of which are connecting them the right way round and limiting the current.  They are diodes, as such they can be damaged by reverse voltage and they do not limit the current that they carry, something else has to do that job.

Cheers for that, where would be the best place to look? I know they have to be wired the right way but after that have not got a clue, I was just going to try various options and see what happens, they were only a couple of quid for 10 so I have a few to play with

Have a look at this simple guide provided by Component Shop.

Had a look and if I have worked it out right I need a 33ohm resistor, I want to use a 7.2v pack and use 2 white led"s, please let me know if I am wrong

Not knowing the exact requirements of the LEDs, but assuming two in series and 7.2 volts, 33 ohms looks reasonable.  Using the TSAR method there. (That Sounds About Right)

According to the component shop website the led's I have ordered require 3.3v times 2 =6.6 from the 7.2 batt = 0.6x50=33, I think that's right
