Another mahogany Princess
« on: October 22, 2016, 04:07:35 pm »

My Aeronaut Princess is almost finished, will take her out tomorrow for the final run of the season. I will have to do some more sanding and apply one final coat of varnish. I also have to finish the dials on the dashboard.

I used real leather for the sun deck (from an old black jacket) dyed with leather paint (works very well, no problem overpainting the previous black colour). The leather proved too thick for upholstering the seats so I used balsa wood instead.

I lowered the floor with the seats etc. to obtain more leg room under the dashboard. I also moved the dashboard slightly backwards. For other departures from the original Aeronaut kit design I refer you to the pics.

By the way, I forgot to re-install the rudder before the photo shoot ....

Thanks for your kind words Jim. I'm pretty pleased with both its speed and handling characteristics (it turns on a dime). I opted for this brushless motor (very smooth startup, performs well at low revs and it has a lot of power) :

The only problem is that the business end of its shaft is on the wrong side of the motor so it has to be loosened and pushed to the other side. I also fitted a cooling part :

[/size]So far I have used this two-blade 4.5 cm diameter/63 mm pitch prop :

Hi Arjan

Cracker of a boat!!!
I am using the same motor in a Sea Commander with no water cooling.
I have not had a cooling problem with the motor.
I have the motor mounted on an alloy L bracket.
It is running a 40mm 2blade prop on 3S and I also tested it on 4S.
Great motor!!!

Hi Cannabus, interesting to hear you've got the same motor. By the way which Sea Commander have you got, the Aerokits or Graupner one ? What are your experiences with a 4S lipo ? I'm considering to buy a 4S lipo next boating season. So far I haven't managed to get my Princess on a plane using a 3S lipo, I suspect I need a 4S one to achieve this.

Hi Arjan

My Sea Commander is the Aerokits(by  Jotika).
The batteries I use are the Turnigy 5800mah 3S 60C or the Zippy Compact 5800mah 4S 40C.
No problems as I use a balance charger( charging at 5 and 1/2 Amps or slow charge at 3 Amps).
Note too large a prop uses more Amps and the boat is slower.
I use a 40 or 42 mm 2 blade prop.
Changing from 3S to 4S will add 4000 rpm!!!
