For a simple and reliable direct-drive brushed motor option I'd suggest a Mabuchi 555 on 12v. Component Shop can normally supply these but they seem to be out of stock at present. However    , I still have a few in my 'private stock'

Hello Mike

I have a 555 in my 33" Mountfleet Highlander Puffer. Personally I think it gets a bit warm even on a gentle cruise around the pond, but they are good motors. On my other, slightly larger, tugs I use the Mobile marine Models T12. Quite a bit more expensive but runs a large prop with ease. Sorry about the delay in replying - been away for the weekend.

I have used an MFA 6:1 ratio 950D series motor with Mtroniks 10A speed control with a 12V 7aH battery in my TID 164, built on  Kingston moulding hull and it will sail constantly for over an hour and the motor doesn't even get warm.
