Toblerone fans unite
« on: November 08, 2016, 11:45:34 pm »

From the BBC
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37904703
They have just announced the reduced size of the blocks by 10% in UK by spacing the pieces out further.  <:(
It happened down here some months ago but without notification. >>:-(
It has caused a war in our family.   Previously the person to get the 'middle' was just thought lucky.
Now it's open warfare.  <*<

They used the same argument to reduce the size of Mars Bars here but they still increased the price within a few months.  >>:-(

If they do the same with Yorkie bars, then they could be the New Toblerone  ;D

All of this type of product change outrage stories are mostly created by marketing men to generate fake news stories (Free publicity), Twitter storms (more free publicity), facebook 'shares' (even more free publicity) - and threads on model sites.

It's the new standard in viral marketing for old brands that are not selling well anymore.

Just like the 'fake' John Lewis advert - I will bet my house that the 'student' (animation company) who miraculously had access to all the crazy-expensive software & computing power is linked to John Lewis' advertising company or was directly employed by them.
It's all about 'raising the brand profile' and getting column inches and internet activity - and more sales.

Not only toblerone, what about Mars bars?

Some years ago you had the standard mars bars, then they brought out a pack with two bars in it but smaller, so you actually got around a 1/3rd more chocolate. Then a year later the big standard bar dissapeared, so did the double pack - they split it into single bars which were 25 grams smaller than the orginal but the price increased as well.

Eventually and I do hope it is soon, the were will be a backlash as people realise they are being ripped off and just stop buying them.

Oddly enough here in Spain, confections like this don't really sell - in fact most sweet products are hard to find, only in large supermarkets or small english run establishments. Sweet shops like the UK don't exist.

Perhaps the new one is the safety version, since it is difficult to bite an alp off the end of a proper one without injury.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT65nIU6fhc  (its a Billy Connolly one, so beware)

I don't mind so much when things like Mars reduce in size as wysiwyg, but this is a variation of the 'selling you air' packaging con. The simple and honest way to go would be knocking a chunk or two off the end (saving packaging as well).
But this is another Kraft company these days, so no surprise really.

I have a weakness for these which I manage to resist except around Christmas. My family come up with all manner of disguises for wrapping them to surprise me with what's inside, but unless they make it the same shape as a bottle of Jack Daniels Old #7 then it's the only other possibility. They gave up on socks, ties and hankies a long time ago.
There is apparently a world shortage of cocoa beans at present, and whenever there's a shortage of anything then what little there is costs more - it's the law of the jungle. Complaining is ultimately pointless but, as I often say, purchase is not compulsory.
Drop a few hints and wait for Santa...

Strange that the advertising campaign surfaces just as people are looking for things to buy for Christmas......

Look on the bright side.....when you are offered a piece of Toblerone you now get a BIG bit. Those on the end of the queue may miss out but hey...that's life!

For Gawd's sake don't stop 'em! I can usually last until Easter. Otherwise it's bl**dy socks, ties and hankies again.

Well done!

I've given up too - they have made it all soooo sweet that it's sickly. It's more sugary than golden syrup. Great for a 'sugar rush' but you feel pretty awful afterwards.
Milk Tray chocolates are now inedible.

Likewise. I usually get a Yorkie if it's just chocolate I want. Not that I'm a big Nestle fan, but there's not much choice these days.
