Hi all,


 I'm currently on with a new build which will be 1 of 2 needing a minimum of 8 channels and I'm very unsure of what my best options are. So, I guess this is where you come in if possible, and just to point out, the least difficult to understand, the better 


A quick breakdown of the uses for these channels;


Tank steering for 2 shafts, 2 fwd and 1 aft thruster, rudders, towing winch, anchor handling winch, radar, lights...and possibly some extras depending on how the build goes.

Do you currently have an F14?

How many of the channels need to be porportional control vs. switched? Something like the list below

1 - Shaft/Motor 1 Proportional
2 - Shaft/Motor 2 Proportional
3 - Thruster Forward 1 - prop or switched?
4 - Thruster Forward 2 - prop or switched?
5 - Thruster Aft 1 - prop or switched?
6 - Towing winch - switched? e.g. retrieve / off / release ( with safety stops)
7 - Anchor switched? e.g. - up / off / down  ( with safety stops)
8 - Radar - switched on/off
9 - Lights - on/off

Hi Adam,

Do you have dinner-plate size hands needed to work an F14?

Somebody has suggested 4 channel 433 MHz modules from Ebay for switched functions before. Add diodes and micro switches and you have taken care of winch mechanisms.
The price for a four function 433Mhz switcher is £15 (or £7.50 + 1 month airmail delay from China)

 Maybe a Carson radio set like the model truck fraternity use would do what you want Adam? They are cheaper than a F14 and the extra decoder that is required, the Carson Rx has , I think, 14 servo/switch outlets.

Would an ACTion module not be able to handle proportional simulated twin motor tank steering and twin rudders on one channel?

since this is for a boat, and not a sub... why not try an FrSky Taranis?  the x9d model is roughly $200, and you have several ways of configuring it to use up to 32 servos or devices that operate like servos, if you have 2 receivers and mixing involved.  mixing on the Taranis is incredibly simple.  tank steering for my tugboats took about 15 seconds to set up.  adding a bow or stern thruster to that mix would take another 15 seconds.

Great news for F14 fanciers ( I am one )
I've just spent a couple of hours with a very nice man, in fact the Ripmax rep.
He tells me that the F14 is available again,complete with all the switches knobs and linear sliders and even the decoders, and is in the Ripmax catalogue.
Not only on 40 meg, but on 2.4 as well ( at slightly higher cost)

Look at modern radios. If you want a lot then look at the frsky tranus x9e or x9d . for less money the carson reflex stick multie pro 14 ch

For anyone with a submarine, or a low freeboard semi-submersible, 40MHz is essential.
Glad that you can get F14's again, including the various modules and parts.

All my other boats are on 2.4   Planet T5 & T7
