RC Trailers for RC Boats
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:17:17 pm »

Yet another thread from me

The model boats have bitten big time and i just can't stop thinking about RC boats now and have just got back into RC models after a long time away. How could i have stepped away in the first place i don't know!

It got me thinking though i have cars & boats and i thought it would be great to combine together and maybe pull the boats on a trailer with the cars or other vehicle.

I have 2 cheap RTR boats which i intend on upgrading to brushless power in good time, but also they make perfect guinea pigs for designing and testing different types of trailer.
I work as an Enginer during the days working alot with CAD, but this time i decided to adopt a new CAD technique to create the trailers.
More in the form of Cardboard Aided Design.

See below my trials so far.
I think i am going to construct them in much the same way i constructed the RC land Yacht i built many years ago using Aluminium extrusion and some RC plane wheels machine to fit on an axle.

The small trailer will be either single or double axled and will feature suspension. I think i will use swing arm with small clothes peg type spring which will allow the axle to swing and absorb the bumps. I may even go triple axle on the larger boat.

If it works out corectly i really want to build something more substantial to launch the Adolf Bermpohl & Tug i am building. WHich means i will then be looking at building a good launch/tow vehicle. So far i like the look of the RNLI County Tractor Talus. But we will see.

I am sure my metal working skills as far better than wood working at least. Plus i have a large supply of steel & aluminium to choose from for working on these obscure projects.
I estimate that i should be able to build each trailer for ~£30-40 and still make a half decent job of it. More pictures to follow

It would definitly be an eye catcher at shows or even just at the pond. I am sure you can get rubber grommits to make the rollers from.

I see you have your two helpers and Bunny to assist you in development:O)

I think you are right. Reckon it would look pretty cool.

Peter Rabbit wasn't helping at all I'm afraid. But the kids were for sure! Haha.

Rubber grommets is great idea. :)
