USS HAZARD
« on: December 17, 2016, 03:57:14 pm »

I have just brought a very old kit, the  LINDBERG USS HAZARD, US Navy minesweeper, 1:125 scale. I think it's the same kit as the USS SENTRY that was motorized.
This kit is not motorized but I hope it comes with the hull molded to take the motors. Does anyone know this kit ? Or the Sentry one.  Any information please.

  I bought one of these ready-made a couple of years ago. It came with the motors installed - I think they were a Lindberg option. The model is not bad considering its age, the only real problem being the representation of plating  which is too small and would not have shown anyway on a model at this scale.

  The Royal Navy had a number of ships of this class, but they differed from the USN ones in having no funnel (side exhausts for the diesels) and a lighter armament.

Thank you Jonty for that, I was interested in that the RN had them, I shall have to look into that. That might make an interesting conversion.  As for the kit it will be interesting to see it, and start it. If anyone else has any information on the RN ones please let me know  :-))

  Strictly from an increasingly unreliable memory I think the RN ships all had names starting "Kil...". Not to be confused with the similarly named First World War class.

Hi Jonty , just had a look at Wikipedia , USS HAZARD and Sentry were of the ADMIRABLE class and not supplied to the RN . The RN had the AUK class on lease lend compleatly different type.  But they ( wikipedia ) might not be up to date. {:-{

  Well, I did warn you about my memory! I'm away from home at present, so I can't check exactly what my model is. The US Navy's PCE class (from which the Kils derived) was based on the Admirable design with a 5ft longer hull.

Aaar that explains it  :-)) ,  never mind I shall enjoy doing it. The anti submarine ones are different in that they had depth charge racks on the rear and a hedgehog on the front and bigger armament.   MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. Jonty.

A wonderful site and great resource for USN ship photos and information  is :  http://www.navsource.org/
It is a great help sorting thru the many differences and it includes Lend Lease information as well.
