aliphatic Wood adhesive
« on: December 19, 2016, 09:23:53 am »

Hi All , just a quickie.
Can anyone recommend a reasonably quick drying Aliphatic Wood Adhesive please ?
I have just been old school and been using Evo Stick blue wood glue . Want to try something different and compare them .

I've used the Evo Stik 'Resin W' blue bottles for years, and I'd have to be pretty impressed to change it.

I'll watch this thread with interest.

There are plenty of aliphatic options: http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/wood_glues.html

Nothing wrong as such with the traditional glues but the aliphatics are generally superior, bond and dry more quickly, are more sandable and are effectively waterproof rather than weatherproof.

Super Phatic from Deluxe materials is the wood glue equivalent of superglue and very effective too: https://www.deluxematerials.co.uk/gb/rc-modelling/31-super-phatic-5060243900180.html

Main reason I want to try aliphatic adhesive is the drying time . Not for all part just those that I want to cure that bit quicker .
Also does it go off  quicker  in lower temperatures?

Yes, it does dry more quickly than standard wood glue, partly because it is thinner and soaks into the wood faster. Like most glues it will set quicker in warm conditions.

To be totally honest this is the main reason I'm wanting to try Aliphatic glue , I'm having to bring a wooden hull into the house every night so the standard wood glue will go off . Temperature in the shed overnight at the moment is just to low for it to cure fully .
Something new required !! Lol

I use Aliphatic Resin wood glue from De Luxe Materials. Available from Expo Tools, www.expotools.com. A lot of other very good adhesives on this site.
