Unfortunately the theory mentioned in the documentary is over 10 years old being mentioned in a newspaper 9 years ago and is only a revelation because of the new photos which I personally doubt as proof because I've seen a lot of 100 year old photos and that smudge could be anything.

I hope some you saw the program on Quest (Chanel 37 in my area) last night (Tues 3rd Jan). This was a fantastic production with much emphasis on very serious scientific analysis. The scenes of the guys going down 2.5 miles in the submersible for 9 hours were staggering. They used a side scan sonar to go along the starboard side of the hull which was impacted in the sand and the resulting data clearly showed the 3 places where the hull was punctured. They also recovered a piece of the hull plating and then subjected it to proper analysis using an electron microscope and you could clearly see the impurities in the steel.
If this program is shown again I highly recommend it. There was no fiction ...... just hard solid evidence.

Hello,

There certainly was some very detailed information in the program.
For me, the worst part of the program was the terrible noise in the background.
I believe it was called "Music" I cannot believe that playing a repetitive number of notes, over and over, can ever be classed as Music, especially when the commentators voice can hardly be heard over it !.
It seems to be the norm to try to drown out speech with what used to be called "Background music", quite a few times last night they succeeded !!!!!!!!!.

I wholeheartedly agree! So many good programmes in film and on TV are totally ruined with this noise and it drives me to a very bad mood! :-X

I think this is repeated on Saturday, 1600-1800, and at least once more after that. (I've set it to record on Sat.)

Which programme is this referring to? The OP or the one in reply #5?

Darn it. That means it may be unwatchable/unhearable for me if they don't have subtitles.

Hi Plague ........ whilst there is an element of truth in the above comments, then do watch this program. Even if you miss a bit of the dialogue you will still find it fascinating and awesome. The video from the submersible is unbelievable, particularly when you take into account that these guys were 2.5 miles down (terrifying).
It is by some measure the best program about the loss of the Titanic and exactly the damage caused to the hull by the iceberg collision.
Enjoy !!!

On today's news there is a report of a gigantic iceberg about to break free from the Antarctic ice shelf. A week or so ago there was a report that work has begun on building a replica of Titanic in China. Can this be a coincidence?  :o

Yes. I started watching it (music not too bad on our system) until I saw them loading a crt monitor into the state-of-the-art submersible which made me wonder. So I scrolled to the end titles to get the programme date ... 1996, a year older than the film  :o  .

I've just finished reading the Hell and high water book (which I got for Xmas following recommendation on here) and that mentioned a theory that the damage to the side of Titanic wasn't the main problem but that she was more severely damaged underneath by a shelf of the iceberg, "she suffered an allision" more than a collision. (If you have the book it's a couple of paragraphs on page 261.)
