« on: January 14, 2017, 11:07:22 pm »

Hi all, Need to install new port and starboard lights on my boat. The old ones have perished. Do I purchase new clear lenses and install red/green gow clear bulbs Or do I buy red/green lenses and fit clear gow bulbs. Not sure hoe bright/dull they will shine. Thank you

depending on size&scale you can get 3 or 5mm dome or flattop led..i used 5mm flattop leds in my 1/20th scale....however I got them from superbrightleds.com.. and got the 10.000 lumins ones for my light bords..all others were 1206 smt/leds very bright and used smt resisters and magnet/enamled wire for the leads...the smt's I got from ebay..1000 pieces in 10 colors for 32$us&free shiping from china.very pleased with them and the results...the only others were the 5050's I used for the sodium halide decklamps above the wheelhouse.  they are a special very bright chip ..3 100 ma,10,000 lumins integrated into 1 5mmx5mm chip but has to have 3 separate b+ and ground leads for each chip..i used solder paste to join them as I found that easyer.i use a set of helping hands to hold the leds and of course a magnfyer seen with my helper in the slide show....see results below

see if this works yay.. in the center of the 3rd pic is the led strip lighting I made for interior cabin lights..also shown is how I ran wireless power to wheel house roof using magnets&brass tubeing and spring loaded contacters...the 2 brass strips in the hull floor also provide a wired conection to the rear mast lighting&control  panel switchs...I was pleased with the outcome
