Looking for a RN ensign
« on: January 06, 2017, 08:37:41 pm »

To my Colleagues from across the Pond,
I am looking for advise in obtains a small supply of RN ensigns, say about 8 by 11 inches in size.
A while back, while engaged in a research project relating to Bar Harbor, Maine, I came across information about  RN Able Seaman John Arthur Cornish from HMS Scarborough, a Hastings class, who died here following surgery for appendicitis in the local hospital on August 16, 1931. Able Seaman Cornish is buried here in Bar Harbor at the Ledgelawn Cemetery. While attempts have been made in the past to honor the Seaman, I have not seen, nor been able to find a RN ensign with which to honor his grave site, something done here traditionally each Independence day and Navy day, for quite some time.
I am hoping someone across the way might have a suggestion as to where a might be able to purchase a few ensigns to reserve for the Seaman's marker.
Thank You
Jonathan

I have had a couple of large ( for model making ) flags made by a specialist company based over here, BECC, www.becc,co,uk. They were about the size you are looking for, but did require the usual finishing off, trimming to size and attaching the rope etc. They are mounted on two of our oversize battleships, and hang and flutter in a most realistic way. They are larger than his normal, stock range, so you will have to ping him an email.
Hope this helps.

Thank You for your reply. I am quite familiar with BECC and their wonderful line of products. I use them regularly.
I will send my inquiry.

Most sadly, I see that BECC Model Flags has closed down and the owner has retired. Another terrible loss to the modeling community.
Thank you for years of wonderful products and service!

No web site but a phone number
Is on here somewhere.
If I find it I'll put it up

Barry's Model Lettering has closed down, I wasn't aware that BECC had closed - it is a family firm - or was!

HI THERE

Well that came as a bit of a shot out of the dark and a bit of a devastating broadside; about BECC model flags \I have done a quick search on the web and some of the flags apparently are available from the shops - how long for - I don't know.   I will do some telephone calls on Monday to try and find out   ~What I find strange is that there haven't been any rumours here on Mayhem.   Normally this is one of the first places we see a bit of smoke about something going wrong.  We haven't heard anything about this one.    At least I couldn't see any.    I know the man is entitled to retire but shame his business hasn't been taken over.

I am told that it is Model Flags who have closed down. They were a BECC agent. BECC sell through their stockists listed on their website such as Cornwall Model Boats.

I most humbly stand corrected. BECC appears to still be in business. ModelFlags has closed down.
Thank You all for your help. I have found a source to fill my needs.

Try contacting the British Legion in UK, am sure they will be able to help your enquiries or even the MoD(n) publicity office if you explain what it is for.
