HMS Leedscastle P258
« on: April 09, 2006, 05:18:31 pm »

Here is Hms Leedscastle built by John Elsy, at 1/48 she has a inbuild camera system and the stabiliser work off a pendulum. The model was built to enter a 24 hour race so the batteries takes ages to put in

I really like those Castle Class patrol boats.

That's a nice looking model, but a 24 hour race?! How does that work then? A team event I'd guess, but around a marked course?

Someone on the old model boat forum was going to organise one. There would be a laid out coarse and see how far you can get. With a certain amount of time every hour or when ever to change the batteries. I do have the rules somewhere.

Sorry mate, Bluebird scratch-built the model? ;D   She is plank on frame hull, with quarter ply frame ribs and obechi planking, covered with tissue matt & resin  - superstructure is all 1/16 ply.  She has two low drain 600s in - driving through belt drive gear boxes.  Two Electronize speed controllers with Hunter system mixer.

Riggers took photograph for me.  ;D

Had a request from bluebird (John E) to list his other model of the Orkney, the leedscastle replaced her. Again she is scratch build like the leedscastle

Hi All,

thanks Riggers for posting this picture, I forgot all about HMS Orkney - when I sailed her in rough conditions....this was built a good few years ago from Jacobin plans - same sort of build - plank on frame and soforth....she again was intended to do a 24-hour race, but, like so many things in life you do some daft things - and one of them was I sold this particular model to the wrong person, that person said if he ever sold it he would sell it to Riggers - but he never did, he sold it someone else.   I regret not selling the model to Riggers in the first place.

If anyone is looking for a very seaworthy model to build - this class of vessel is one of the best.

Well Bluebird, if that photo is anything to go off, this class will take some beating. It looks almost real, as though it was off Iceland or somewhere in the Actic.
Lovely photo and a nice model too.
