Hi all,

Just a few pics of my first build, Model Slipway's Shamrock, on it's first outting at Setley Pond in the new forest. Not quite finished yet, the bridge still has to go on and the windows need tinted (click on the image for a bigger one):







I'd be interested to know what people think of this shot.. does she need some ballast in the bow?

About 13:00 today. Was a bit on the windy/choppy side, she handled it very well though!

Thats where I lost my flaming superstructure the other Sunday. I was there for a short while this morning.

Ah dear, not good. Were you able to recover it? It's a nice spot out there, hopefully i'll get out tomorrow - weather depending!

No its still there. The weather forecast is not good for tomorrow.

Its worth it as membership covers insurance and we lease the pond off the Forestry Commission.

Your boat does seem a bit high at the bow when its planing.

Yeah, i'm not sure if it needs ballasted down a bit or if a different prop would help push it through onto a flatter plane. Some expermenting will be required when it's completely finished.

Trim tabs seem to be the answer, not ballast. In the pic where she is stationary, she seems to ride quite near the appropriate water line.

I tend to agree with Captain Jack trim tabswould get her sitting nice and level at speed.

Just a thought have you a seperate reciever pack as the low weigh of the pack usually is just enough to bring the nose down in the water a little more.

Hi Phil did you get your motor and mount sorted out after you tried to set fire to it the other Sunday ? The smoke was very impressive.  O0

Jay is right about the separate battery pack. All of my prototypes had these and I also recall having to put a small amount of ballast underneath the Rx pack in one of them, too. I've not sailed a Shamrock in stuff as choppy as this so I can't comment on whether or not trim tabs would help.

Yeah all sorted now, I was nearly into the back of the car for the fire extinguisher! She's sitting much more level at speed now with the new prop and motor, just needed a little bit extra to push onto a nice plane. I kept a close eye on it today to make sure the motor wasn't getting to hot, all seems well. Thanks for the tips folks.

I am lucking to have one of FLJ's prototype's, there is two battery packs. The RX pack is in front of the main battery pack and there is a small ballast weight underneath and the model handles superb in all weathers.
