Just copied this from a new facebook page. It's one of a pair of fishing boats out of Peterhead last week in the North Sea. Photo taken by skipper Phil Steven. Can you say these guys have cojones as big as watermelons!

Just to put you in the picture,
Haddock landed sells for a
Pound a pound.
That's what the Trawler Owner/Skipper gets
Before paying crew, ships chandler's, fuel,
Repairs, Replacements etc.
Plus those big waves.
My local fishmonger, who buys direct
From Grimsby Fish Market pays nearly
Three times that so we pay a bit more
So he makes a living.
Who are the winners?
Fish buyers and processors who don't even
get there feet wet, They wear smart white wellies
when they attend the market.
Rant over <*<

Cheers for that update Davie. The facebook page said it was last week, But whenever it was, the crew deserve their pay and more!

Ned its always been the same. I'm currently reading a book called Yorkshire Fishermen, it charts north sea (near waters) fishing from the 1800's to the 1970's. In there it says about the guys going out in cobles and 5 man boats, risking all and then selling the fish on not at market but along the quay as they landed back. The buyers paid the money, but deducted their share for buying, a share for transport to the railway and a share for loading to the trains.

In reality the transport was owned by the buyers, and they did the loading of the train, so screwed three shares, be this 1shilling or more per 244 herring or whatever. They never got wet, they never had to overcome danger or death but made huge profits out of those that did.

Nothing changes does it. We still have people around who will make a profit out of other peoples suffering.
